Sultan Wins 2005 Booker Prize for Excellence

The Sultan of Lancaster, has been recognised as the best 'On the Go Caterer' at the Booker Prize for Excellence awards.

The prize rewards the effort to create a modern and refreshing food court and art gallery in a building which was previously a city centre church.

All of the foods are home made and the building has been modernised to include an art gallery as well as a daytime restaurant with seating for 50 customers.

"The Sultan of Lancaster is not only a food court, it is a hidden treasure and there is a 'wow' factor. A lot of people say they have not seen anything like this anywhere in England," says Mr Munshi.

The Booker Prize for Excellence awards aim to celebrate the country's most outstanding caterers and independent retailers.

One judge reported: "The Sultan of Lancaster has both flair and imagination. It offers superb facilities and a thoughtful menu. The staff make every customer feel special and welcome and the unique offer of a deli with the caf makes this a special dining experience."

The prestigious awards ceremony was held in Bedfordshire, where Naim Munshi is pictured receiving the accolade from award winning comedian Al Murray, best know for his character of The Pub Landlord
